Each year for the entire month of March, the Women & Allies ERG at G2 and millions of others across the U.S. celebrate Women’s History Month. The U.S. is just one of four countries to recognize and celebrate Women’s History Month—the others are the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Philippines.
Women’s History Month is a dedicated month to reflect on the often-overlooked contributions of women throughout history. The actual celebration of Women’s History Month grew out of a weeklong celebration of women’s contributions to culture, history and society organized by the school district of Sonoma, California, in 1978. The week was to correspond with International Women's Day, which is celebrated on March 8, and was intended to address the lack of attention to women's history in the K-12 curriculum.
A few years later, the idea caught on within communities, school districts and organizations across the country. In 1980, U.S. President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring the week of March 8 as National Women’s History Week. The U.S. Congress followed suit the next year, passing a resolution establishing a national celebration. Seven years later, the National Women’s History Project (now known as The National Women’s History Alliance) successfully petitioned Congress to expand the event to the entire month of March.
This is the 38th straight year of celebrating Women’s History Month and the official theme is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.” This year’s theme is especially meaningful to me because it focuses on how women can transform the world through education and mentorship and help shape future generations.
Malala Yousafzai once said "The content of a book holds the power of education and it is with this power that we can shape our future and change lives.“ This is true now more than ever. Education is not just about the knowledge one receives - it’s about using that knowledge to empower themselves, and extend that empowerment to those around them. I’ve personally experienced throughout my life and my career how strong women role models have impacted me and made me the person I am today.
Early in my career when I transitioned from an IC to a manager here at G2, I felt imposter syndrome creeping in. Am I meant to be here? Is this the right decision I made for myself? The best piece of advice that I received from my manager was to believe that I belonged: “Pree, If you are in that meeting, you have worked hard to get there, and you deserve to be there. People want to listen to your ideas, so there is nothing to be afraid of - Be you.” I am grateful to have worked with such amazing women leaders who empower and support other women, and I continue to live by this everyday.
Education and empowerment will not just change our present, but future generations We need to create more opportunities for women, support more women in leadership roles, mentor women just starting out in their careers, to support women’s education and training, support women-owned businesses, recognize and celebrate women’s contributions—and most importantly, dream bigger for women.
I’m proud to be a part of G2, which remains as committed as ever to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace for all—including women. That is why I chose to become an ERG co-lead and help push this work forward. As a co-lead of the Women & Allies ERG, I also wanted to use my platform to spotlight some of the amazing women at G2 and ask them: “Why Is Women’s History Month Important toYou?”

Women’s History Month is really special to me on both a personal and professional level. In all areas of my life, this month is a time for reflection and celebration of women throughout history, and it’s also an opportunity to think big and continue to strive for change.
This year’s theme is really poignant, because as a teacher at heart, it’s my hope to educate others on the impact women have had on the world and inspire future generations to do the same.
It’s an honor to be a co-lead of G2’s Women & Allies ERG, and I’m truly grateful to all of the women at G2 and beyond that have supported me & made an impact in my life - I hope to do the same!

When we take the time to learn and understand experiences different from our own it allows us to be more accepting of others. Women's history month provides the opportunity for us to reflect on how women and women's rights have evolved and to appreciate those bold women who have created the path for others to follow and forge on.

A world without women could literally never exist. Women are the foundation of resilience, empathy, and intelligence - our contributions shape our past, present, and future. We should continue to always celebrate and recognize all of our accomplishments.

Women's History month is a time to reflect on all the contributions women have made in the fight for equality of opportunities. As a Nigerian woman working in the American tech space, I've drawn strength from the inspiring narratives of trailblazing women who've overcome barriers to create opportunities for themselves and others.

For me, Women’s History Month is a time to recognize and uplift the voices of the women in my life and a reminder to always support each other in spaces where we deserve to thrive. It’s also a time to reflect on the work that’s already been done to break gender norms and continue to heal, unlearn, and create new paths.
As an Indian living in the States, I feel honored to be able to celebrate with women from two cultures and strongly believe that empowered women, empower women. Here’s to everyday greatness!

This is a time to celebrate the incredible women who have shaped my life. Both of my parents grew up in big families and I have seven aunts combined-each of them taking and living such unique life paths and offering guidance, wisdom, and unwavering support. Their influence has shaped who I am today.
I also think this has impacted my choice to step into a leadership role. Having been surrounded by strong, supportive women, I know how valuable guidance and mentorship can be. It’s important to me to pay that forward and honor the impact women continue to have in shaping our lives and communities.

I encourage each of you, no matter how small they may be, to find a way to contribute to the betterment of women around you: - sign up to be a mentor/mentee at your organization, teach a skill, recommend a book that you loved, join a club, or just check in on one another. The world is tough right now, but in the end, all we truly have is each other.
The Women & Allies ERG—is one of nine ERGs at G2. Like all the other ERGs, it’s a space for G2ers to share, grow, and connect. For me personally, it has played an important part in my professional growth and helped me meet other incredible women across the company. I hope you will join me, and our Women & Allies ERG, in honoring Women’s History Month and also take some time to celebrate with your personal and workplaces as well.
