New Categories Introduced to G2 in August 2025

September 2, 2025

At G2, our mission is to help buyers discover, compare, and select the software solution that meets their needs and drives their success. To continue delivering on that promise, we’re excited to announce the expansion of our taxonomy with the addition of seven new software categories.

From emerging AI tools shaping the future of work to specialized platforms that streamline operations in key industries, these additions ensure G2’s marketplace stays current, relevant, and comprehensive. Let’s explore these new categories in detail, including products that are leading the way and how they can benefit your business.

1. AI SOC assistants

About this category:

Artificial intelligence security operations center (AI SOC) agents offer organizations of all sizes a powerful new way to alleviate the already overburdened InfoSec teams from cumbersome yet essential routine security operations. Agentic AI within traditional security operations centers (SOC) offloads the detection, analysis, and response to cybersecurity threats. Doing so allows InfoSec professionals to manage the response to threats at a high level while simultaneously focusing on other, more sophisticated projects.

Why it was introduced:

“As the security space continues to evolve in the wake of AI, it is imperative that software buyers can find products that level up their organizations’ defenses. Bad actors are certain to deploy malicious software generated by powerful AI tools, so it’s only fair to fight fire with fire. AI SOC agents are an incredibly effective way for InfoSec teams to help level the playing field in this new and rapidly changing threat landscape.”

2. Transfer pricing

About this category:

The transfer pricing software category helps multinational companies ensure their intercompany transactions comply with international tax laws by automating Arm’s Length Principle calculations, documentation, and reporting. It reduces tax risk, prevents penalties, and integrates with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to streamline data transfers and compliance across organizations with international operations.

Why it was introduced:

"The transfer pricing software category was created to help multinational companies automate compliance with international tax laws, reduce the risk of penalties, and ensure intercompany transactions meet regulatory standards like the Arm’s Length Principle. As global tax regulations continue to increase in complexity, it’s critical to ensure accurate, audit-ready documentation and minimize compliance issues through automation."

3. Applied behavior analysis

About this category:

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) software, similar to mental health software, is designed specifically for ABA therapy providers and clinics. Traditional mental health and electronic health records (EHR) tools often lack the unique capabilities, like digital behavior data collection, that ABA providers need to provide proper care. These products emphasize behavior tracking, discrete trial training (DTT), data collection for individualized treatment plans, and parent/caregiver portals.

Why it was introduced:

"The ABA category was introduced to reflect the specific needs of ABA providers. With ASD diagnoses being 4.9 times higher in children under 8 years old than in the year 2000, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the ABA therapist job market is expected to increase 22% by 2031, thus increasing the demand for ABA-specific software."

4. Site search

About this category:

The site search software category includes tools embedded directly into websites or applications to facilitate storing and retrieving data. These solutions enable external users to efficiently search for specific information, content, or products on a particular website. Site search products provide indexing and power search features and aid in conversion optimization and customer experience.

Why it was introduced:

“Site search software was created to separate solutions focused primarily on enhancing internal search experiences, such as in knowledge bases, from solutions aimed at customer experience and searching within an external-facing application. As the needs of users searching in external and internal applications vary widely, G2 created a category focused on optimizing search within external-facing applications.”

5. Ergonomics

About this category:

Ergonomics software offers organizations a new approach to managing occupational hazards throughout the workplace. These solutions allow businesses to address workplace concerns and improve their workforce's overall health, regardless of location. This category also supports proactive risk management by helping companies identify issues early and implement corrective measures before they escalate.

Why it was introduced:

“Ergonomics software is rapidly becoming a key part in modern EQS solutions, a driving force for team member well-being and operational safety concerns in office and industrial workplaces. These platforms identify and mitigate workplace risks by combining AI, computer vision, and real-time monitoring. Their proactive risk evaluation, continuous insights, and integration with wearables or IoT are helping organizations build smarter, data-driven safety programs.”

6. eMAR

About this category:

Electronic medication administration record (eMAR) software helps caregivers in long-term care, assisted living, and post-acute care manage and document medication administration for patients in real time. Some of its key features include digital medication schedules, barcode scanning, and automated alerts that make it easier to stay organized and ensure every dose is given accurately.

Why it was introduced:

“G2’s new eMAR category highlights how the healthcare industry is rapidly moving towards digital solutions. With a global shortage of healthcare workers and rising burnout, healthcare providers need smarter ways to manage care. eMAR software replaces manual medication tracking with digital records, helping staff reduce errors, ease burnout, and improve patient safety.”

7. Contact center AI observability

About this category:

Contact center AI observability software provides purpose-built tools to monitor, analyze, and assure the performance of AI agents, such as voicebots and chatbots, in customer service operations. These platforms give AI operations and customer experience (CX) leaders the visibility to manage the "black box" of conversational and generative AI. This enables them to proactively test AI behavior, diagnose failures, and validate that every automated interaction is accurate and safe. Organizations use this software to de-risk AI deployments, improve self-service containment rates, reduce AI-driven errors, and build essential trust in their customer service automation.

Why it was introduced:

“The customer service industry is the most compatible use case for the generative AI technologies offered by frontier AI research companies. Generative AI models have a small chance of hallucination, quickly becoming a liability when handling large volumes of customer inquiries. With contact center AI observability software, businesses can track AI performance across time and quickly troubleshoot errors or isolate them as soon as they occur.”
