Since the release of our Fall 2024 reports, G2 introduced 15 new categories – ranging from AI Governance Tools to Wastewater Pipeline Inspection!

These represent emerging areas where there are now enough products or services to deem a brand new category on G2. However, it’s worth noting that it typically takes time for new categories to mature to a point where they feature their own live Grids and quarterly reports.

New Categories Added to G2

  • AI Agent Builders – These are platforms designed to build, deploy, and manage autonomous AI agents deeply integrated with a company’s data ecosystem, business processes, and customer relationship management (CRM) systems. Unlike standard chatbot software, AI agent builders enable highly customizable agents of different varieties that can be embedded directly into business workflows and data structures.
  • Procurement Orchestration – Tools that coordinate and integrate procurement processes, technology, and resources across various business units, regions, and product categories to help streamline the entire procurement lifecycle, from sourcing to payment.
  • Flexible Workspace Management – Tools that help businesses efficiently book, manage, and optimize access to various flexible workspaces, such as coworking areas, meeting rooms, private offices, and event venues, on demand. Companies use these adaptable solutions to support hybrid and remote work environments.
  • Strategic Portfolio Management – This type of software helps companies define, implement, monitor, and optimize strategies to manage project portfolios successfully. These tools are typically used by mid-market and enterprise companies from project-based industries such as IT, professional services, utilities, or architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC).
  • Wastewater Pipeline Inspection – Software in this category is used by municipal utilities, engineers, public works departments, and wastewater management companies to oversee the inspection of sewers, storm drains, manholes, wells, and pipelines. These tools act as a centralized system to collect, analyze, and create reports from inspection data.
  • AI Bias Audit Services – These services offer assistance in analyzing and examining preexisting AI systems and identifying potential biases. Organizations use these services to ensure that any AI recruiting process isn’t unconsciously reproducing bias. In some areas, businesses must comply with local or international laws by hiring a third-party auditor if they can’t audit in-house.
  • Edge AI Platforms – These types of platforms facilitate the deployment and management of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) models directly on edge devices. These devices—which include IoT sensors, mobile phones, embedded systems, and other hardware at the network's edge—process data locally without sending it to centralized cloud servers.
  • Large Language Model Operationalization (LLMOps) – This type of software allows users to manage, monitor, and optimize large language models (LLM) as they are integrated into business applications. These tools facilitate not only the deployment of LLMs but also their ongoing maintenance, fine-tuning, and iteration.
  • AI Governance Tools – These tools and frameworks are designed to oversee, regulate, and manage the responsible development, deployment, and operation of AI systems. It ensures that AI technologies are ethical, transparent, secure, and compliant with legal and regulatory standards. Data science and AI development teams, compliance and legal teams, and IT and security teams use this software.
  • Farm Accounting – Also known as agricultural accounting, this type of software is used by farmers, ranchers, bookkeepers, and agricultural businesses to manage farm and ranch-related financial records and activities.  It helps business owners set clear financial goals, monitor cash flow, and make data-driven decisions.
  • API Mocking – Software that simulates the behavior of APIs during software development and testing so that developers, QA engineers, and other technical teams can create and deploy mock APIs that mimic the functionality of real APIs without needing a live backend or third-party service.
  • Digital Experience Orchestration (DXO) Platforms – These platforms are an emerging technology that enables organizations to seamlessly integrate and manage diverse digital touchpoints within a composable architecture. These tools provide a centralized hub for orchestrating content, data, and experiences across multiple channels and systems.
  • Fatigue Risk Management – This type of software helps businesses monitor and control employee fatigue levels, enhancing safety and performance in critical industries like aviation, transportation, healthcare, and manufacturing. Typically used by HR professionals, safety managers, and operational leaders, these solutions detect fatigue patterns, predict risk, and suggest interventions.
  • Mobile Device Testing – These are specialized tools designed to evaluate and diagnose the condition and functionality of used mobile devices before they are sold in the aftermarket. These solutions are tailored to the needs of businesses that buy, refurbish, or resell used smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices.
  • Executive Recruiting Firms – These are a subset of recruitment agencies that hire C-suite talent. Because hiring new executives is expensive, time-consuming, and carries high financial risks, businesses rely on these firms to lead the searches for members of their C-suite and their board of directors.
